Carlo Bergonzi was a celebrated Italian operatic tenor whos career peaked in the sixties and early seventies.

Although he performed and recorded many bel canto and verismo roles, it is for the operas of Giuseppe Verdi, that he is particularly remembered.

Known for his beautiful diction, smooth legato, warm timbre and elegant phrasing, Carlo Bergonzi was acclaimed for his attention to the style required for successfully interpreting Verdi's operas.

Partnering some of the giants of opera in the mid to late 20th century, (Callas/Scotto/Tebaldi/Caballe) Bergonzi is well recorded in many full opera sets.
