(31st March 1911 – 6 November 1986)
Elizabeth (Elisabeth) Grummer was a German lyric soprano much respected in the post war era.
After the war, she settled in Berlin, singing at the State Opera there. While she performed in all the major opera houses in Europe and the United States, she restricted herself to a small number of roles (primarily German).
Elizabeth Grummer was also an active recitalist and gave many concert performances, particularly of Brahms' German Requiem.
She is also fondly remembered as an excellent Donna Anna, in the famous '54 Salsburg production of Don Giovanni, under the baton of Wilhelm Furtwängler- which is available on DVD today.
