Legendary star of the Metropolitan Opera, Licia Albanese sang "Un Bel Di" from Madama Butterfly at the final Opera Gala in the old Metropolitan before it was demolished to make way for the new Metropolitan that we know today. At the end of the aria she stooped down, kissed her hand and pressed it to the stage- the stage where she and her colleagues, Jan Peerce, Richard Tucker, Ezio Pinza, Zinka Milanov, Rise Stevens and so many others had performed so many legendary performances. The picture above, captured the moment and appeared in Life Magazine.
