Lotte Lehmann was a German soprano who was especially associated with the German repertory.

She gave memorable performances in the operas of Richard Strauss with the Marschallin in "Der Rosenkavalier" being considered her greatest role.

During her long career, Lehmann also made more than five hundred recordings. In her later years she became a respected teacher and among her pupils was the great Grace Bumbry..
