Lucia Popp was a notable Slovak light-lyric and lyric coloratura soprano who excelled in the lighter Richard Strauss and Wagner operas.

The recording as Queen of the Night in "The Magic Flute" in the sixties gained her enormous recognition and admiration.

Her career included performances at Vienna State Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden, and La Scala. Lucia Popp was also a highly-regarded recitalist and lieder singer.

Her career suddenly came to a halt in 1993 with the discovery of a brain tumor. She died a few months later. Her passing came within months of Tatiana Troyanos- both greatly admired artists who took the roles of Sophie(LP) and Octavian (TT) in the production of Der Rosenkavalier which was filmed (now available on DVD) with Gwyenth Jones as the Marschellin, under the baton of Carlos Kleiber.

Lucia Popp is one of the featured stars on our "Legends" product range.
