Erich Wolfgang Korngold

(1897–1957)

 

Korngold was an Austro-Hungarian composer often attributed as one of the founding fathers of film music.

He won an oscar for his score to the movie The Adventures of Robin Hood but in the opera theatre he is remembered most for Der Ring des Polykrates, Violanta, Das Wunder der Heliane, Die Kathrin, but more particularly, Die tote Stadt which continues to grow in popularity in opera houses around the world today.
