Riccardo Chailly

Riccardo Chailly is an Italian conductor.

He made his debut with the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam in 1985.

His final opera production in Amsterdam was DNO's staging of Giuseppe Verdi's "Don Carlo".

At age twenty Riccardo Chailly became assistant conductor to Claudio Abbado at La Scala, where he made his conducting debut in 1978.

Chailly became the first director of music at the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi (La Verdi) in 1999, and held the post until 2005.

Since then he has broadened his repertoire to put more emphasis on orchestral works by Brahms, Mahler and Bruckner.
